On June 10th, XLVets hosted a webinar where our experts focused on dairy fertility and how you can get the most from the second half of this breeding season. The event was moderated by Donal Lynch, Slieve Bloom Veterinary, Offaly and panelists included Kevin O Sullivan MVB, Glasslyn Veterinary, Cork, Doreen Corridan MVB, Munster Bovine and Michelle Crowley, Territory Manager MSD Animal Health Intelligence.
The session focused on the 2nd half of the dairy breeding season, covering the three main groups on a farm: cows, replacement heifers and 2021 born heifer calves. Just some of the content covered included; heat detection aids, vasectomised and stock bulls, early pregnancy scanning, synchronisation, dealing with late calvers, growth rates, grass allocation and we will look at some of the common issues seen this year.
Some comments from our viewers on the evening;
“The advice on dealing with late calvers to bring them forward for next season ,also the collars and new technology was very interesting
“Some excellent content, especially feeding late calvers and insight into BCS. Great practical tips for breeding. Assessment of breeding aids especially new technology”
