Our Story

XLVets Ireland is a network of independently owned veterinary practices. Our membership model is built by members, for members. Our success is from smart, focused, value driving works, closely collaborating and delivering strong commercial benefits, sound organisational processes and support to members.

XLVets members are part of a successful global community of veterinary networks in the UK, New Zealand and Canada. By providing a model that supports collaborative working, members have the opportunity to share ideas and learn new skills beyond their regional and country boundaries.

Mulcair Veterinary Clinic, XLVets Chair

Sean Coffey

Sean qualified from UCD in 1998. He is a partner at Mulcair Veterinary Clinic, a 3 partner, 8 vet practice with clinics in Newport and Cappamore. Sean became a partner in 2005, he started veterinary life as a farm animal vet but as the years have passed he now spends more and more time as a companion animal vet. Mulcair has been a member since XLVets inception in 2010. Sean joined the Board of Directors in 2019. He is a member of XLVets Companion Animal and our Marketing Committee, Public Relations Committee, Social/Ethics & Nomination Committee.
Glasslyn Veterinary Clinic, XLVets Director

Kevin O'Sullivan

Kevin qualified from UCD in 1998 and joined Glasslyn Veterinary Clinic in 2000, an 11 vet mixed practice with clinics in both Bandon and Kinsale. Kevin is one of four partners. Kevin has a keen interest in all aspects of dairy practice. Glasslyn joined XLVets in 2014 and Kevin joined XLVets Board of Directors in 2015 and was appointed Chair of XLVets in October 2020. Kevin is a member of XLVets Farm Animal and the Governance, Risk & Audit Committee.

Patrick Clerkin

Patrick qualified from UCD in 2009 and is a partner at Clerkin Veterinary, a 9 vet family run practice. Clerkins have clinics in Cootehill, Virginia and Clones, Co. Cavan. They are a member since XLVets inception in 2010. Patrick joined the board of directors in 2016. He is a member of XLVets Fundraising, Membership, Finance Committee & Remuneration Committee.
FarmGate Veterinary Group, XLVets Director

Conor Geraghty

Conor graduated from UCD in 1999, he is principal of FarmGate Veterinary Group, a six vet large animal/equine practice in east Galway with clinics in Mountbellew and Loughrea. His specific veterinary interests include herd health, reproductive efficiency in beef and dairy cattle and knowledge transfer. Conor is past president of Veterinary Ireland. His practice joined XLVets in 2015 and Conor joined the Board of Directors in 2016. Conor is a member of XLVets Farm Animal and Marketing Committee, Public Relations Committee, Social/Ethics & Nomination Committees.
Slieve Bloom Veterinary, XLVets Director

Donal Lynch

Donal qualified from UCD in 2000. He is principal at Slieve Bloom Veterinary with clinics in Tullamore and Portarlington. Since qualifying he has worked in mixed general practice and has a particular interest in cattle health and production. Donal keeps suckler cows, sheep and horses on his home farm. He is past President of Veterinary Ireland and past Chair of the Food Animal Group of Veterinary Ireland. His practice has been a member since XLVets inception in 2010. Donal joined the Board of Directors in 2015. He is a member of XLVets VetInsights, Farm Animal and Fundraising, Membership, Finance Committee & Remuneration Committee.
Longford Animal Health Centre, XLVets Director

Donagh Mc Donnell

Donagh qualified from UCD in 1992. He has vast experience in equine medicine, ultrasound scanning and lameness investigation, along with an interest in bovine medicine & surgery.
Longford Animal Health Centre joined XLVets in 2014 and Donagh joined the XLVets board in 2021. He is a member of the XLVets Marketing, Public Relations, Social/Ethics & Nomination Committee.
Castle Vets, Castleisland, XLVets Director

John Quille

John qualified in 2000. He is a partner at Castle Veterinary, a two vet, predominantly farm animal practice in Castleisland, Co Kerry. John has completed the Dairy Herd Health Certificate from UCD and a diploma in Veterinary Practice Management through University of Ulster. Castle Vets joined XLVets in 2016. John joined the Board of Directors in 2018. He is a member of XLVets Farm Animal and Marketing Committee, Public Relations Committee, Social/Ethics & Nomination Committee.

Chief Executive

Mike Curran

Mike Curran has extensive experience in the service, retail, airline and pharmacy industries; driving value through the design & implementation of change; in sales, costs, people, culture, communication, processes & infrastructure. Having achieved a 1st in a Master of Business Studies in 2017, Mike continued education with Project Management in UL, Negotiations in Trinity, Leadership with the IRFU, Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma and diploma in Corporate Governance. Notable achievements include a Top 1% MBS result, published peer viewed article in the International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management, case study by leading global firm, conference speaker, winner national retail store Ireland. In his downtime, Mike, living in Co. Clare, enjoys food, achieving finalist Masterchef Ireland, coaching Rugby and Football teams, running, swimming, fishing, boats and all adventures outdoors.
XLVets Skillnet Network Manager

Denise Duggan

Denise Duggan joined XLVets in 2014 as our first full time member of staff and manages our training network XLVets Skillnet. Denise qualified with a Business Degree in 2008, in 2016, completed a Diploma in Learning and Development with IPA and is currently completing a Leadership Development Programme through Ingenium. Denise has a long history working within education and managed a training centre in Limerick for 5 years prior to joining XLVets. Denise works closely with our Skillnet Steering Group to implement the network's training plan by liaising with our members to identify common training requirements that drives excellence in practice.
XLVets Procurement Manager

John Berkery

John Berkery who comes from an agricultural background and still working on the family farm, joined XLVets in 2021 as our Procurement Manager. Having completed a Certificate in Business Management in 2011 with a 2.1 from UL, he continued CPD with various QQI awards during the following years that led on to complete a Higher Certificate Level 7 in Quality Management and Statistics in 2020, at the Technological University of the Shannon - Midlands and Mid-West. John has a long history of working in the agriculture retail space, including as an agri trading retail store manager and brings an enthusiasm and energy to the role where he will focus value driving projects for XLVets members. John has a keen interest in sports, rugby and hurling in particular, and has been involved with community clubs for many years.
Events and Marketing Co-Ordinator

Fiona Leamy

Fiona Leamy joined the XLVets team in 2020, taking on the role of Events and Marketing Co-Ordinator. Fiona graduated in 2018 achieving First Class Honors in a Bachelor of Business in Marketing and Management degree. Shortly after graduating Fiona moved to London and spent two years working with White Spider Media, a media advertising agency. In this new role, Fiona manages the XLVets marketing activities and coordinates all XLVet Skillnet training activities. Fiona has a particular interest in digital media and also loves using her organisational skills to manage and coordinate projects on time and to the highest standard.
Finance Administrator

Anita Stack

Anita Stack is the newest team member of XLVets taking on the role of Finance Administrator. Anita has over 28 years’ experience in Financial Administration and is skilled at data processing and documentation analysis. Anita possesses a broad knowledge of accounting software and processes and hopes to bring these along with her organisational abilities to her new role at XLVets. Outside of the work environment, Anita is an active member of the community and is always keen to volunteer for events at the local GAA club, soccer club or residents association, Anita is also Treasurer of the local school Parents Association.
