In this ‘Day in the Life series, with XLVets Ireland and MSD Animal Health, during Day 2 we followed the busy veterinary team at Mulcair Veterinary Clinic, XLVets Ireland member practice.

Over the day, Donal Murphy followed the vets during both large and small animal appointments. Calls on the day ranged from carrying out a ruminant synthesis to examine the ruminant microflora with Niall Lysaght, to a hernia operation on a February born Friesian heifer calf with Micheál English and Marie Louise Ryan.

Finally, the team caught up with practice partner Brian Ryan for an overview of what it’s really like to be a mixed practice veterinarian in Ireland.

During the day, practice partner, Sean Coffey also talked through their impressive new clinic which will be up and running in the summer.

About Mulcair Veterinary Clinic

Mulcair Veterinary Clinic is based in the Mulcair region of the Mid West. This practice has been a member of XLVets Ireland since its inception in 2010. Mulcair Veterinary Clinic have 11 vets, 3 veterinary nurses in addition to 10 support staff.

The practice has two bases; the main branch is in Cappamore, Co. Limerick. It is a purpose-built practice that includes a retail shop, companion animal consult room, surgery and kennels, large animal operating area, X-Ray and laboratory facilities.

Mulcair Veterinary Clinic provides their local community with a high-quality veterinary service to farm and companion animals. Animal care and welfare is always a priority, striving to provide a competitive, prompt service with good follow up and investigations where necessary.

They are currently building a new state of the art hospital in Newport, Co. Tipperary. Natasha Mitchell, Veterinary Ophthalmologist, and her team at Eye Vet will also be work from here. This expansion will ensure that the team can accommodate all the pets that come in to see us by tripling the number of consulting rooms, surgeries and will include separate dog and cat waiting areas and wards. This brand-new clinic/ hospital building is due to open in the early summer.
